A fully funded pilot program for 40 participants was launched late 2019 with a view to the program being rolled out over 12 months. It has been identified as part of the review of the British Training Board program over the last 3 years that there is little or no support in Wales for serving personnel, reservists, Veterans or their partners to gain or improve their qualifications. The Positive Direction course will offer initially 5 popular areas of employment withing Facilities Management, these areas include including Hospitality, Security, Retail, Cleaning and Contact Centre. These industries have been identified as a good career as it affords all level of employment for entry level to management to self-employment, and also flexible working hrs. Industry standards that are generic across Wales, meaning that if the participant has to relocate, they will still be able to complete their qualifications and be able to best utilise their skills. This coupled with a Guaranteed Interview Scheme, supported by some of the best employers in Wales will make the prospects for the participants going forward a Positive Direction to be going in. Adrian Rabey Founder and CEO said “we are delighted to be able to offer this pilot program as I recall when I was serving that my wife had to constantly change jobs and settle for what she could find until we got her a qualification to move into a school, she then used this qualification and experience as we moved from posting to posting. This also helped when we left the forces as she could still carry on and look for a job in a school where we eventually settled after the forces”. The Pilot course is being funded by The Armed Forces Covenant Grants Scheme and The British Training Board cic, as part of its Armed Forces Community Academy (AFCA)

The British Training Board will be providing an exciting new service for our members. Through our leading services, our new and existing members will be guaranteed interviews with our partner organisations, which will give them real interview experience and increase the likelihood of them landing their dream job. As we are specialists in helping people lead fulfilling careers, we’ve decided to offer some useful interview dos and don’ts to help people get the job they really want. Preparation is key When it comes to interviews, preparation is the key to your success. It not only helps you feel more confident and relaxed about the interview, but an employer will spot whether you’ve taken the time to show yourself at your best, and this will work in your favour. During your preparation for your interview, be sure to look at what skills and abilities the employer is looking for and think of ways in which you demonstrate these qualities, giving examples. Research Researching the company you are interviewing with before you attend the interview is the first step in being prepared. If you don’t know anything about their organisation, it will show and make you seem uninterested in the job and what it entails. Questions It also helps to consider the questions you want to ask at the interview, such as questions about the organisation, to show that you are keen. Don’t only ask about pay and holidays! Show your interest in the goals of the organisation and how you can help contribute to its successes. Preparing answers to possible questions you may be asked will allow you to tailor your responses so they are relevant, helping your answers to be more clear and concise. People often stumble when being asked a question in a pressured situation, so preparing answers is a good idea to avoid feeling uncomfortable. Body language Your body language is extremely important in an interview and you should ensure you try to look relaxed and approachable. Have a positive attitude and make sure that you are polite, friendly and professional during the interview. Smile and make eye contact with the interviewer and show you are engaged with what they are saying. The British Training Board is a Community Interest company that was set up to deliver Services to the Armed Forces community. It is the only Military Skills translator service available in the UK. In October 2017 it launched the Guaranteed Interview Scheme (GIS) a new service to solve the problem of service leavers and Veterans being able to get an Interview for a new role in civilian life. Adrian Rabey, CEO of the British Training Board said " when i left the forces in 2012, i was not sure what my skill set would be useful for in a new civilian career. I found that getting my CV out was the easy bit, it was getting that all-important interview. We did a lot of research into this problem and spoke to a lot of employers to find out the reasons for not interviewing Service Leaves and Veterans. Most were shocked to learn that they had not even been short listed for interview, others said they did not realise that the transferable skills would work for their company. The British Training Board (TBTB) is the UK's only dedicated Military skills translation service, this community interest company (CIC) is a not for profit organisation that puts its profit back into helping the community it serves. That community is the British Armed Forces. TBTB was founded in 2014 after its founder and CEO Adrian Rabey had problems in making civilian employers understand his particular skill set. Adrian approached various companies and educational institutions to look at a way of transferring military skills into recognised civilian qualifications. from this initial research a 3 year pilot program was launched in September 2014. The transition from the armed forces into civilian life can be a hard transition. According to a report by The Centre for Social Justice (November 2014), unemployment amongst ex-service personnel aged 18-49 is twice the national average and estimates suggest that as many as six per cent of the UK homeless population currently could be ex-armed forces personnel. Adrian Rabey, Founder and CEO said, " The pilot program was supposed to be for 10 service leavers original, but as the pilot progressed we noticed that it was a lot bigger than we expected, this only spurs us on as the need was being identified, which is what the pilot program was supposed to highlight “The Pilot program was completed in Oct 2017. The report was published in January 2018 and identified that over 2500 service personnel had had they skills translated and over 16,000 qualifications had been issued. The report also highlighted the point that service personnel were leaving their qualifications till they were about to leave the forces or had left. Subsequently the TBTB now delivers a Serving Program supported by Career Development Managers (CDM's) to accredit service qualifications at the point of delivery or in line with their current job or role in the Military.
