THE BRITISH TRAINING BOARD

We are very proud to be a Community Interest Company (CIC). This means that we are a company that helps a specific community to achieve a particular target or goal.

Our community is the Armed Forces and public services community. Our goal is to make the training and skills you achieved in the Armed Forces and other public bodies recognised by civilian employers, get you the best start on the way to your second career, and help you with your qualifications while still serving.

Since October 2014, The British Training Board has been operating and conducting market research into the skills translation market. Since the Launch in 2014, we have successfully helped 3657 serving and ex-military personnel get recognition for their previous military and public service training and experience. The research pilot finished on 30 September 2017.

On the 5th October 2017, the Launch of the new British Training Board services included one-to-one career coaching (while in service) to aid retention, skill translator service to "Shadow" their military or public sector job role, and to identify where the skills gap are, provide an ongoing year career development plan, that is designed to complement the role they are doing in the military or public service while keeping the civilian accreditation so that when it comes to job search after a long and fruitful career they can move into civilian employment with little or no transition needed.

2018 saw the process being finalised and specialist military and police units using the service to gain higher level qualifications, including Degrees from our Higher Education partners

2019 is the start of the Global Launch of various projects. Their projects will be launched at a series of Launch events, starting with the first event in the home of the British Training Board, Swansea, on March 22nd.

2021 June 24th (during Armed Forces Week) was the Official opening of The National Armed Forces Hub It is located at the Technium 2 Building in Swansea. Welsh Government, UWTSD, Cabinet Office Local, and other partners support it.

January 2022, we launched the PROUD program. This is an innovation in how our community can get the best assistance to take up a role in the Civil Service, including help, support and one-to-one mentoring from a Civil Servant who can guide you through the whole process of becoming a Civil Servant.

July 2023 We partnered with the Institute of Leadership (IOL) to give our community an express pathway to membership grade with this world-renowned organisation. Click here for more information.

National Armed Forces Academy (NAFA)

Is the only dedicated program for the whole of the Armed Forces and public services community. We will keep you on track with your qualifications while SERVING with your own Career Development Manager (CDM) and when you have completed a long and fruitful career, we will point you in the Right direction with our PROUD Academy. When your service is done we will help you as a VETERAN to start your new career.

Our support also extends to your immediate family as we all know that partners/spouses and dependents have a hard time. So we think they should get something back, therfore we have a Partners Positive Direction program that will do just that.
